shipping. For the longest time, plastics were the material of choice. But the effects on the environment and human health are immense. This is why the EU is intervening: Having decided to combat single-use plastic products, the European Union passed the \u201cSingle-Use Plastics Directive\u201d (SUPD).   <\/p><p>For Amazon sellers, this means new regulations, new labeling obligations, and clear prohibitions. At the same time, many are uncertain, in particular in regard to the question which products are affected and which are not. This blog post provides clarification.  <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e24d7fe elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"e24d7fe\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What is the EU Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUPD)?<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-350a50a elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"350a50a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-divider\">\n\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-divider-separator\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c67ad64 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c67ad64\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/HTML\/?uri=CELEX:32019L0904\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EU Directive 2019\/904<\/a><\/strong> was adopted on June 5, 2019, focusing on the reduction of single-use plastic products and their environmental impact. It is part of the European Green Deal and the circular economy strategy. The objective is to reduce the amount of plastic waste, in particular in the oceans, and to promote sustainable alternatives.<\/p><p>A single-use plastic product is defined as:<\/p><p>\u201ca product that is made wholly or partly from plastic and that is not conceived, designed or placed on the market to be re-used or recycled for the same purpose for which it was conceived.\u201d<\/p><p>The regulation affects:<\/p><ul><li>distributors of certain unpacked goods (wet wipes, balloons and tobacco products).<\/li><li>distributors of certain packaging containing plastics (food containers (\u201cto-go\u201d), bags and wrappers made of flexible material, beverage containers with a capacity of up to 3 liters, beverage cups, lightweight plastic carrier bags).<\/li><li>distributors of fireworks (as of 2026).<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>This Directive has to be transposed into national law by the member states. In Germany, this was done by way of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gesetze-im-internet.de\/ewkverbotsv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Single-Use Plastics Ordinance<\/a><\/strong> (Einwegkunststoffverbotsverordnung, German only) and the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gesetze-im-internet.de\/ewkkennzv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Single-Use Plastic Marking Ordinance<\/a><\/strong> (Einwegkunststoffkennzeichnungsverordnung, German only).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-d1059fc elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"d1059fc\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-e455f10\" data-id=\"e455f10\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9c4d1a8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9c4d1a8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Plastic products for single use<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0416bae elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"0416bae\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-divider\">\n\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-divider-separator\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9091faa elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9091faa\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Since July 3, 2021, certain single-use plastic products may no longer be placed on the market, including: <\/p><ul><li>single-use cutlery (forks, knives, spoons, chopsticks)<\/li><li>single-use plates<\/li><li>straws<\/li><li>beverage stirrers<\/li><li>cotton bud sticks (except for medical purposes)<\/li><li>balloon sticks<\/li><li>food containers made of expanded polystyrene (e.g., polystyrene boxes)<\/li><li>beverage cups made of expanded polystyrene<\/li><li>products made of oxo-degradable plastic<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7ec806b elementor-invisible elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"7ec806b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_animation&quot;:&quot;fadeInUp&quot;}\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<figure class=\"wp-caption\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/compliance.tradavo.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Einweggeschirr.jpg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full wp-image-7701\" alt=\"Einweggeschirr\" srcset=\"https:\/\/compliance.tradavo.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Einweggeschirr.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/compliance.tradavo.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Einweggeschirr-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/compliance.tradavo.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Einweggeschirr-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<figcaption class=\"widget-image-caption wp-caption-text\">Single-use tableware is subject to the new regulation and may therefore no longer be placed on the European market<\/figcaption>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/figure>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-198eb81 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"198eb81\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Attention:<\/p><p>These products may no longer be sold or placed on the market since the regulation has come into force, neither in store trading nor via online marketplaces such as Amazon.<\/p><p>Please note: So-called \u201cbio-based\u201d plastics (e.g., PLA) are not automatically considered to be reusable;
