know all the laws and regulations relating to the products that you want to sell. A field that deserves special attention is the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/HTML\/?uri=CELEX:32016R0425\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Regulation on personal protective equipment<\/a><\/strong>, or PPE. It takes effect in particular if you want to sell products that could be classified as PPE. Generally speaking, PPE means <strong>any equipment designed and manufactured for the purpose of being worn or held by a person for protection against risks to their health or safety.<\/strong> It includes gloves, helmets, goggles, safety footwear, and special protective clothing, among others. The PPE Regulation (EU) 2016\/425 contains strict provisions regarding the requirements for the production and sale of such equipment within the EU.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3da3180 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"3da3180\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Risk categories of PPE<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c627b75 elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"c627b75\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-divider\">\n\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-divider-separator\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ef4f550 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ef4f550\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Regulation divides PPE into <strong>three risk categories<\/strong>, depending on the severity of the risk. Category I includes products designed for minimal risks, category II includes PPE for average risks, and category III includes PPE for risks that may cause very serious consequences such as irreversible damage to a person\u2019s health or even death. In detail:<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-234b5c4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"234b5c4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Category I<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-19fb6b4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"19fb6b4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Category I <\/strong> includes PPE intended to <strong>protect users against minimal risks<\/strong>. This means products that protect you from<\/p><ul><li>superficial mechanical injury;<\/li><li>contact with cleaning materials of weak action;<\/li><li>contact with hot surfaces not exceeding 50\u00b0C;<\/li><li>damage to the eyes due to exposure to sunlight (other than during observation of the sun); or<\/li><li>atmospheric conditions that are not of an extreme nature.<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>With products in this category, the manufacturer is directly responsible for their distribution. It means that these products are intended to <strong>protect you against average risks<\/strong>. If a product is classified as category II, the notified body is required to do an EU type examination (module B) to certify that these products comply with the applicable requirements under the PPE Regulation. Furthermore, the documentation includes a list of the fundamental requirements regarding health and safety, same as they are defined in the PPE Regulation itself and applicable for the respective product.<\/p>\n<p>Detailed design and production drawings of the PPE, including all of its components, modules and circuits, are another essential part of the documentation, complemented by necessary explanations to ensure that the operating principles of the PPE, the plans and drawings are easily understandable. Not least of all, information about harmonized standards and other technical specifications that have been applied, in part or in their entirety, is also included. Compliance with the applicable standards is confirmed by the results of tests and analyses that are also included in the documentation.<\/p>\n<p>For products classified as <strong>category II or III<\/strong> in particular, the <strong>EU type examination<\/strong> is crucial. For this examination, a representative sample of the PPE is tested by an authorized body to ensure that the design of the product complies with the relevant requirements in regard to health and safety. If the product successfully passes the test, a certificate of the EU type examination is issued, which constitutes an important part of the technical documentation. If a product is explicitly classified as <strong>category III<\/strong>, it is important to make sure that <strong>the identification number of the notified body is indicated next to the CE marking<\/strong> on the product in order to show that the product has been subjected to a strict conformity assessment procedure and complies with the requirements of the PPE Regulation.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, observing these procedures ensures that PPE that is marketed under a private label complies with the relevant safety standards and statutory provisions.
