We looked at the <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/HTML\/?uri=CELEX:02012L0019-20180704&amp;from=EN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)<\/strong><\/a> Directive, the <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/HTML\/?uri=CELEX:32006L0066&amp;qid=1679830919655&amp;from=EN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Battery Directive<\/strong><\/a>, and the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. This blog post deals with the topic of electrical equipment in more detail.<\/p><p>The field of electrical equipment is rather complicated, which is why we would like to give you an overview of the various standards, laws and regulations that are relevant in regard to the sale of electrical equipment. <strong>Please note<\/strong>: The following aspects <strong>are valid at present, but they can change at any time<\/strong>! This post <strong>cannot provide a complete overview<\/strong> of the topic of electrical equipment because this is simply too wide a field. For example, the <a href=\"https:\/\/compliance.tradavo.eu\/en\/reach-regulation-part-1\/\"><strong>REACH Regulation<\/strong><\/a> also applies for parts of electrical equipment. In this post, however, we will only discuss the <strong>requirements that apply specifically for electrical equipment only<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-51cbd05 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"51cbd05\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Electromagnetic phenomena (EMC)<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-48591b8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"48591b8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Electromagnetic phenomena pertain to the <strong>electromagnetic compatibility of electrical equipment<\/strong>. Electromagnetic compatibility means that electrical equipment works acceptably without impairing or being impaired by other electrical equipment. To ensure such compatibility, it is necessary to limit the interfering signals emitted by an appliance. Furthermore, each appliance must have a minimum interference immunity protecting it from external magnetic fields.<\/p><p>On the European level, all of this is regulated by the <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/HTML\/?uri=CELEX:32014L0030&amp;from=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Directive 2014\/30\/EU<\/strong><\/a>, which harmonizes the respective legislation. Products falling under this Directive and requiring corresponding laboratory testing include:<\/p><ul><li>USB chargers,<\/li><li>hand-held vacuum cleaners,<\/li><li>smoke detectors.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-d1059fc elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"d1059fc\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-e455f10\" data-id=\"e455f10\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e915513 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"e915513\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Low Voltage Directive (LVD)<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-74ee629 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"74ee629\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In order to improve the safety of electrical products, the EU adopted the <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/HTML\/?uri=CELEX:32014L0035&amp;qid=1679846297662&amp;from=EN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Directive 2014\/35\/EU<\/strong><\/a> in 2014. This Directive harmonizes the legislation in regard to voltage limits of electrical products throughout the EU. The English term Low Voltage Directive is often used in Germany, too, instead of \u201cNiederspannungsrichtlinie\u201d (NSR).<\/p><p>The Low Voltage Directive does not contain any technical specifications, but rather provides for basic requirements that the products have to meet. For example, electrical equipment must be made in such a way as to ensure that it can be <strong>safely and properly connected<\/strong>, and to ensure <strong>protection against the potential hazards posed by electrical equipment<\/strong> \u2013 e.g., on contact or in the case of external influences on the equipment.<\/p><p>It applies to products with a rated voltage between 50 V and 1,000 V for alternating current and between 75 V and 1,500 V for direct current. You can see that <strong>almost all everyday appliances fall under the Low Voltage Directive<\/strong>.
